Bringing home a new baby is magical… and also a little chaotic. One minute you’re staring at their tiny eyelashes in awe, and the next you’re googling “why does my newborn make dinosaur noises in their sleep?”. In the middle of all that newborn bliss, you might be wondering:
When should we do newborn photos?
The sweet spot is 7–14 days old, and here’s why this tiny window creates the dreamiest, sleepiest, most melt your heart kind of images.
The "Froggy" Pose, for instance, is highly requested but can only be done with a very sleepy baby.
2. They still curl up like tiny little cinnamon rolls
Between 7–14 days, babies can still naturally fold into those cozy womb-like positions. In fact, they prefer it. They’re flexible, snuggly, and willing to curl up like the world’s cutest croissant.
After two weeks?
They start stretching out like “I’ve been alive for 15 days and I have RIGHTS.” Still totally adorable… but a little less ideal for classic newborn poses.
3. All the tiny “newborn details” are still fresh
Those flakey fingers, fuzzy shoulders, pouty lips, and milk bumps? They change fast..... like, really fast.
Capturing them early means preserving the stage you’ll look back on later thinking, “I can’t believe they were ever that tiny". These details are what fine art newborn photography is all about: soft, emotional, timeless little features that tug on your heart forever.
